Artist: Carolyn DulinMy work expresses a range of ideas from geometrics to organic forms. A major theme in many pieces involves the natural landscape and forces that have shaped it, creating layers of strata, folds, and fissures. Some pieces suggest winds for zephyrs to twisters; some suggest currents of wind or water. I’ve looked to the sky for inspiration as well as flora and fauna. The pieces are dimensional, with a play of light and shadow. I’ve used colored clay extensively and continue to experiment with each new piece. The work is always evolving. Artist: Jason HaightMy name is Jason Haight. I am a lifelong resident of North Branch, Michigan. I have always had a fascination with old dilapidated structures, and that is where I get most of the inspiration for my carvings. I love the effect that weather and time have on an old barn or house. Old shaky stone foundations, with missing or warped wood look as though the next big Michigan wind storm could blow them right over. So, when I see an old abandoned structure, I take note of how it leans to one side or how the wooden shingles are curled up. Later, I try to incorporate that look into my work. Artist: Dennis Hanser, PhotographerDennis retired from his job as a commercial locksmith at Oakland University a number of years ago and joined the Lapeer Art Association in order to learn about this thing called “Art” and to meet artists of various disciplines. Artist: Jennie MoenchI have painted in oil since I received a set of oil paints on my ninth birthday. As with writing, I have to paint, both are more of an obsession than work. I gravitate toward people as my subjects, but paint anything from a photo. For several years, I set up a kiosk in various places in the Flint area and painted miniatures on Christmas bulbs from photos that my customers supplied. Portraits were my draw, but I also painted many pets and houses. Although, I often paint with watercolors or whatever medium appropriate for the project, mainly I paint in oils on masonite. All of my paintings and others are part of my ‘original artwork by Jennie Lynn,’ photo album on my facebook. Many are also for sale on Etsy. Artist: Dale VronchI am a nature photographer from Lapeer Michigan. For many years I’ve had an interest in photography and in spending time outdoors. I consider myself primarily self-taught along with having attended numerous photography seminars. I’m inspired by beauty that God has provided in nature. When I’m granted an opportunity to capture a subject, the responsibility within that opportunity motivates me to invest the time and resources to reveal the subject as best I can. My photography has brought me in contact with people that have had a positive influence on me. Where I’ve been encouraged to succeed, I wish to do the same for others. Through out the year I give several presentations and workshops to share what I have learned with others, including teaching regular photography classes at Gallery 194 in Lapeer. Artist: Bruce WegnerAs far back as I can remember I was always holding a pencil and drawing. Growing up I spent as much time as I could in art classes, and even had hopes of going to an art school, but life has a funny way of twisting things around, and I found myself in the Navy far out on the ocean. I still found time to draw and I would draw pictures for a few dollars. When I got out of the Navy I had a family to support so I took a more rational approach and went to school to become an auto parts designer. I am now retired and have started to express myself in another art form. I began taking photographs for drawing studies, but some of the photos were good enough to frame and sell. I have been a member of the Lapeer Art Association for quite a while now as a way to show my work. I now enjoy the camaraderie and learning new techniques from fellow artists that has enhanced and further expanded the artistic side of me.
